      Robbins was the son of one of the first settlers of Solon and authored a book entitled A Journal: Comprising an Account of the Loss of the Brig Commerce in He was regarded as a national hero. Several companies operated Stone quarries along the Aurora Branch of the Chagrin River.   Today I was at the Shaw Hudson House doing some work on the book collection of the Plainfield Historical Society. I picked up a book to check it against the inventory: A JOURNAL, COMPRISING AN ACCOUNT OF THE LOSS OF THE BRIG COMMERCE OF HARTFORD, (CON.).

James Riley, master, upon Robbins, Archibald Hartford: Andrus and Judd,   King says his book was based on two memoirs: James Riley’s “Sufferings In Africa” and Archibald Robbins’ “A Journal Comprising an Account of the Loss of the Brig Commerce.” Both works are in the public domain.     Riley also assisted one of his crew, Archibald Robbins, in publishing his narrative A Journal Comprising an Account of the Loss of the Brig Commerce ().
